Embracing Change: Supporting Lives Together

#SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers is a movement started in 2018 to promote and operationalise the principle that migrant workers are deserving recipients of zakat and other regular donations from the Muslim community. Join our Instagram page and/or our mailing list for more details and updates.

A Journey of Compassion and Unity

Migrant Mutual Aid (MMA) was set up in late 2020 – at the height of the COVID-19 crisis – to facilitate the redistribution of resources from Singaporeans to the migrant worker community. MMA sees migrant workers as an integral part of the Singaporean fabric, to whom we owe our solidarity, rather than charity. In this spirit, MMA serves as a link between migrant workers with specific needs and individuals who wish to extend solidarity by redirecting resources to them. More information on Migrant Mutual Aid’s verification, listing, and disbursement procedures can be found on their website.

Reflecting on Our Journey: Milestones of Care and Support

In Ramadans 2021 and 2022, the #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers community raised a total of $50,180 to support R, a Bangladeshi worker who was being supported by the Migrant Mutual Aid through his long and painful process of treatment for bone marrow cancer. Sadly, R passed away in June 2022, leaving behind his widow (aged 34 at the time) and two young children (aged 3 and 10 at the time). The funds raised enabled his family to pay for his treatment including his care in the Intensive Care Unit during his last days, although they still had to incur debt to cover residual medical, funeral and other family costs. In Ramadan 2023, MMA established the Fund for Bereaved Families with zakat and donations from the #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers community.

2024 - Medical treatment, or public transport allowances

At least $30,000 – to replenish TWC2’s Standing Medical Fund, that was first set up in 2019 with #SGMuslims4MigrantWorkers donations; and At least $30,000 – to set up a Fund for Bereaved Families on behalf of Migrant Mutual Aid, to provide some financial relief to widows and families left behind when a migrant worker working in Singapore passes away.

Help injured and seriously ill migrant workers get medical care and support

2020 - Financial relief for migrant workers with unpaid salaries

Help raise funds for migrant workers in financial distress due to unpaid salary claims, as worsened by the Covid19 crisis.

2019 - Support migrant workers who are injured or seriously ill

Migrant workers who suffer injuries or serious illnesses cannot afford medical care, and often face severe financial consequences.

2018 - Help migrant workers in distress access food and medical care

Migrant workers in Singapore are far from home, in debt, and without income if they get injured or lose their jobs.

Our Dedicated Team

Concerned about the plight of injured and defenceless migrant workers, two Singaporean Muslim women – Ms Shirin Chua and Ms Ameera Begum – set up a ‘Medical Fund’ for them.
